Yesterday I said that my broken shoulder had not been a factor in my decision to start making my way home. Well, after writing that I went to have another x-ray to check my progress. Below is the x-ray taken 2 days after my accident:

As a recap, the good doctors of Ecuador (and my insurance company) advised me that allowing the bone to settle in this unnatural, riding position would provide a fully operational shoulder after just 3 weeks, and was far less traumatic and expensive than an unnecessary operation involving chainsaws and the like.

Two and a half weeks later, this is how it looks. Now first of all, let me say that from the outside the physical difference is immediately apparent. I have a big depression in my right shoulder, and the right side of the clavical (looking from the front) is at a more acute angle than the unbroken clavical of my left shoulder. Now study the x-ray; I don't know about you but it ooks to me like a chunk of new bone has grown, pushing the two broken parts of my clavical apart, there is also a large whole between the two, and another big chunk of bone just sort of floating around in thin air. I don't know about you but I'm worried.

An Update: the only bone specialist in the town is on holiday. Double bugger.

La segunda imagen tomaba ayer – hace dos semanas y media, mira como este. Ahora, estudia la radiografía; no se de usted, pero mira a me como un pedazo de hueso nuevo ha crecido, empujando los dos secciones de mi clavícula aparte. ¡También, está un bien espacio entre los dos, y está un bien fragmento que no está conectado a nada!
