True story....
I just don't know where to start with this one, it's just a little bit too weird. But I owe it to my faithful and devoted followers to to at least try to tell this story. The problem is that it's beyond exaggeration, so I guess I just have to blurt it out and get it over with.
Well, today, I carried the roasted head of a pig into a prison as a birthday gift.
The head of a pig.
The head of the same pig that was killed, torched and butchered in the garden of my mentor.
The same head that sat in the kitchen watching me as I ate.
The same head whose snout skin turned and began to look like tusks as it sat in the sink.
I put it in a cardboard box and carried it into a prison where my mentor's wife is being held.
I'll say it again, just once more:
I carried a cardboard box containing a pig's head into a prison today.
I don't mean to labour the point but come on!
On a sidenote, here is another article on Rio de Janeiro (I kinda like this one so for that reason alone you should read it). Favella Tours

Believe It Or Not
This makes perhaps the oddest birthday present I've posted here at Holiday Gifts:...

He Ho Travelling dude it's the beaver muncher here.
As expected, I had to leave panama or risk being linched by the angry mob so to speak. I threw everything I had into my sack and quietly left the pub for the early morning shadows of the dockyard.
From my ratcatching days, I knew the workings of the port better than most so it wasn't long before I was signed on an Indian cargo tramp heading as I thought to the falklands where I could join up with horatio and those two Aussie sheilas.
Everything was going fine, I was a galley slave(kitchen porter)to pay for my passage, until we passed the falklands and carried on south and rounded the horn. We are heading for the MALDIVES and not the MALVINAS.
Our first port of call is the scheychelles where I think I will leave the ship and try my luck. I know the Aussie birds intend to call there on their way home. I have to finish now as the radio officer needs to use his gear.
Dude, that pig's head business sounds a bit weird. Go carefully young traveller, and remember what Confusious said.
Talk to you later

Martin, hello again,
We had another successful outing on Chimborazo with no less than four summit attempts, one of which had a positive outcome with five people getting to the top. We had the usual problems with frostbite, but unusally for such an experienced team, one climber had serious altitude sickness which nearly killed her.
That's the reason we couldn't join you for a drink. She needed specialist medical attention asap which wasn't available in the area.
The pig's head business - sounds a bit scary to me. The black country beaver mucncher was right. Remember what Confucious said.
Travell well young Martin
regards
Ed

Confucious may have been confused but who am I to spread the news?

Hi Martin its Horatio here,
We are still at the Falklands and having a grand time. We didn't spend too much time in Port stanley as it is very busy with lots of military activity going on so we have been sailing around the islands and meeting the locals at various locations.
We are currently moored in Queen Charlotte Bay, and are being fussed over by a family sheep farming on Weddell island. Which includes use of their internet facilities.
What do you think of that buffoon, beaver muncher, mistaking the maldives for the malvinas. Mind you he is right about the pigs head thing. Remember what confucious said!! I think we will have to give the scheychelles a miss. he is too weired for me. And I aint sharing one of my aussie beauties either.
We intend to sail north to elephant jason and south jason, spend a few days on pebble island, and head through falkland south and towards south georgia before we round the horn and onwards.
I'll post again at south georgia.
remember what confucious.
